Dr Gary Betts is Head of Coventry Law School. He has a keen interest in legal education, particularly around authentic assessment, student engagement, and attainment. With over 20 years’ experience in higher education, he has extensive and varied experience of teaching Law at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, both in the UK and China. He has designed and developed a number of innovative courses and modules in law and has been recognised as a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Gary’s research lies in the areas of criminal law and criminal justice. In particular, he is interested in sentencing policy and the use of judicial discretion in sentencing. He has written on the courts’ application of sentencing guidelines, the relevance of previous convictions on sentencing decisions, and sentencing corporate offenders.
